Concrete Steps & Stoops in Colorado Springs, CO
Front-porch concrete steps are the very first thing visitors interact with at a Colorado Springs home, and they take a beating - from mag chloride, ice, plow snow, and decades of foot traffic. We install, repair and fully replace concrete steps and stoops across Colorado Springs, from simple two-step landings to full porch stairs with brick-ledge details.
Our installations use 4,000-PSI air-entrained concrete with rebar and fiber mesh reinforcement, properly tied into footings that extend below Colorado Springs’ frost depth (30 inches). Treads are pitched 1/4-inch toward the front for drainage, and finished with a fine broom or non-slip sand-broadcast for safe winter footing.
If your existing steps have spalled fronts, separated risers or are pulling away from the house, we'll evaluate whether resurfacing or full demo-and-replace is the right call. Steps are often paired with a fresh concrete walkway and front sidewalk install for a complete entry refresh.
- New concrete steps and stoops on poured footings below frost depth
- Brick-ledge or full-form concrete designs
- Slip-resistant non-skid finishes
- ADA-compliant tread depth and rise where needed
- Resurfacing for spalled but structurally sound steps
- Wrought-iron railing coordination

Footings & Frost Depth
The Pikes Peak Regional Building Code sets the local frost depth at 30 inches. Any concrete steps that aren’t tied to footings below that line will eventually heave when groundwater under them freezes - and on El Paso County’s expansive clay soils, a shallow footing will also ride up and down with every wet-dry cycle. We hand-dig 12-inch-diameter footings to 36 inches below grade, pour them with 4,000-PSI concrete, and install rebar dowels that tie the new step footings to the steps themselves.
Form, Pour & Tread Detail
Forms are built from 3/4-inch plywood with 2x4 bracing. We size risers at 7 inches and treads at 11 inches for code-compliant residential stairs (or 6-inch riser / 12-inch tread for ADA-compliant access). Each tread is pitched 1/4-inch toward the front for drainage. We pour from the top down, vibrate the forms to release air, and trowel-finish with a broom drag for slip resistance.
Brick-Ledge & Veneer Options
If you want a brick or stone face on your steps, we pour the concrete with a 4-inch brick ledge in front, then your mason faces the steps after the concrete cures. Brick-ledge construction adds about $400-$700 to the project but gives you the timeless Colorado Springs look. We can also coordinate the mason or recommend one if you'd like a turnkey project.
Repair vs Replace
Surface spalling that hasn't compromised the structural concrete can be resurfaced with a polymer-modified overlay - lower cost, faster turnaround. But cracks that go through the riser, separations between the steps and the house, or footing heave are all signs the structural concrete is compromised. In those cases full replacement (with proper footings) is the right answer. We'll be honest with you during the estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions
A typical 3-step, 4-foot-wide concrete stoop replacement in Colorado Springs runs $1,800-$3,200 installed including demo, footings and finish.
Sometimes. If the steps are still structurally tied to their footings and only the surface is failing, polymer-modified resurfacing at $40-$60 per linear foot is a good option. Otherwise we recommend full replacement.
Yes. The Pikes Peak Regional Building Code puts the local frost depth at 30 inches, and we dig to 36 to stay clear of it. We hand-dig and pour proper footings on every set of new steps.
We can pour a brick-ledge step that's ready for your mason to face with brick or stone, or we can broom-finish concrete to look clean and modern.
We don't fabricate railings ourselves but we can coordinate with local wrought-iron shops and pour the slab with proper anchor inserts.
